Use Partida Agave Nectar for a Healthier, Diet Margarita
I'd like to introduce you to an important and extremely versatile product from Partida Tequila, Partida agave nectar (at least in my humble opinion). I received a sample a short while ago along with their tequilas - but I purposely delayed writing about the nectar because I felt it deserved a seperate post.
Partida agave nectar is a blue agave based organic, natural fructose sweetener. It's sweeter than sugar and also has a reported lower glycemic index rating than sugar, honey or maple syrup. The glycemic index rating of agave nectar is 11, sugar's is 100. That's 1/10th the glycemic index of sugar!
Partida nectar is water soluble, which means that it will dissolve instantly in drinks and mixes well with other ingredients in cocktails. Sometimes I can't be bothered to make simple syrup, it's nice to have an alternative readily available, especially a healthier one. There's no aftertaste from the nectar because it's all natural.
So we have an all natural product, with a lower glycemic index rating than sugar and which also tastes sweeter than honey? Diabetics and non-diabetics alike rejoice!
Partida's aim with this product is to maintain the blue agave purity of the tequila in a margarita; why spend hundreds of dollars on a premium tequila only to mix it with a generic supermarket margarita mix? This is a key problem with most inferior margaritas, the issue is not with the tequila used but what the tequila is actually mixed with. Partida wisely recognized this and introduced this excellent product to address that issue.
Partida agave nectar also cuts down on calories and the alcohol content in margaritas - you can skip the Cointreau altogether. This gives you a healthier, all natural beverage - there you have a Diet Margarita!
Diet Margarita
- 1.5 oz Anejo Tequila
- 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
- 3/4 oz Partida Agave Nectar
I'd also like to recommend an excellent cocktail drink I created using Partida Agave Nectar; the Lagosian.
The Lagosian
- 2 oz Partida Anejo Tequila
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 oz cointreau
- 1/4 oz Partida Agave Nectar
Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a lime wheel. But wait, there's more! Since the nectar is an all natural product, try it in place of sugar in your cooking; use it in your oatmeal, cakes etc.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen - Partida Agave Nectar.

Doug: it really is and yes I’m absolutely certain it will work in non-tequila drinks, you can use it anywhere simple syrup is required. I even use this stuff in my oatmeal in place of sugar. Visit this site for more info: http://www.partidamargarita.com ; go to the link “About Partida Agave Nectar”
Hello Everyone,
I’ve tried it alone and in the Partida Margarita. It’s really good, I try to shop organic and it’s great that I can incorporate it into my cocktails!!!
Partida makes really good 100% blue agave estate grown tequila. Jacques and Junior at TalkDrinks.com are really big fans of Partida. They have a lot of great cocktail advice/stories on their blog.
Hi Jim,
You can find out more about Agave Nectar at the Partida Margarita site.
I think there is a contact us email on the site in addition to a page on Partida Margarita.
Best,
Shani
My friend gave me a couple of bottles of The Margarita King… I drunk it with my girlfriend, and we both loved it for its refreshing taste… Since then we always have at list one bottle of The Margarita King in our fridge…

This sounds like a very versatile product! Do you think it would go well in non-tequila drinks as well?
And, more importantly, do you have a link to a source for this stuff on the web? I didn’t see it on the Partida website?
